FAMILY INFORMATION:
Carol - "I grew up in a family that attended church. As a child I accepted the Lord as my personal savior in the Junior church. Although I believed in God I did not grow much in my faith. During my years in college a friend shard a list of short term opportunities with Wycliffe Bible Translators, I applied to seven different Latin American countries and ended up spending my summer in Guatemala. I was a temporary partner to a girl doing literacy work among the Pocomchi Indians. That summer was significant in my growth as a believer. I learned a great deal about the Lord, had my faith stretched, and had good times of fellowship with the girl I was partnering. I discovered that I wanted the Lord to be first in my life. Following my summer in Guatemala I continued my education with a year of studies abroad in Spain. After the good fellowship I'd experienced in Guatemala, Spain was the complete opposite. it took a long time to find other believers and there were very few opportunities for fellowship. My desire for the Lord grew through that time, and eventually He led me to other believers. My time in both Guatemala and Spain radically changed my relationship with the Lord and the direction in which I was going. It was also significant in His leading me into Wycliffe Bible Translators.
Rick - "I was born in Mexico and grew up in Guatemala where my parents were translating the New Testament for one of the groups of Mayans. I accepted the Lord as a child while attending boarding school in the highlands. Growing up within the Mayan and Latin cultures of Guatemala gave me a desire to be involved in cross cultural work, but I knew I wasn't interested in translation - I had seen first hand how hard that was! I graduated from LeTourneau University with a bachelors degree in Bible and a minor in "Missionary Technology". I continued to feel led to work in missions, but felt no clear direction as to my area of service. I spent a period of years alternately working in the construction industry in Canada, and assisting missionaries in Guatemala with their construction needs. It was during this time that the Lord led me to apply to Wycliffe as a translator. I see my conversion as a crucial step in my walk with the Lord, realizing that each day I must consecrate myself to Him. I hope that I'm never satisfied, always desiring greater intimacy with Him.
